Scaling ABM in Low-Demand Regions with a Top 40 Account Program

How a structured one-to-many ABM motion drove 95% account engagement and 54% MQL conversion across targeted enterprise accounts.

The Challenge

Demand generation is rarely uniform across regions. While some territories produced consistent inbound pipeline, others lagged. Not because the market wasn't there, but because awareness and engagement simply hadn't been built. The challenge was to give AEs in lower-demand regions a structured way to work with marketing and generate pipeline within high-value accounts, without pulling resources from the core demand gen engine.

The Approach

We designed a tiered ABM program structure (one-to-one, one-to-few, and one-to-many) to match investment level to the size and priority of the opportunity. The flagship program was called Top 40: a one-to-many motion where each AE identified up to 40 target accounts per region. Accounts were selected using ICP scoring and propensity data developed through prior analysis. Marketing then layered on dedicated support: incremental digital spend, event targeting, and paid channel activation, all focused specifically on those accounts. The goal was to generate measurable engagement within a rolling 30-day window and create a warm signal the AE team could act on. In parallel, we ran a higher-touch play using direct mail and workshop offers. Using a tech stack intelligence tool (ATC), we identified what infrastructure each target account was running and built customized messaging around it, giving prospects a concrete, relevant reason to take a meeting.

Results

  • 95% - of Top 40 accounts engaged during the duration of the program

  • 54% - of engaged accounts converted to MQL

  • 15% - meeting conversion rate across Top 40 accounts

The direct mail + workshop program consistently delivered at least one meeting per cohort. Combined with the broader Top 40 engagement data, this gave AEs a reliable, repeatable motion for building pipeline in regions that previously had little to work with.

Key Takeaways

A well-structured ABM motion can meaningfully level the playing field across regions. Data-driven account selection, multi-channel activation, and tech stack-informed personalization drove strong engagement at scale. The program improved year-over-year once we closed the loop on the one variable holding back conversions: ICP adherence.
